About DDWMission StatementDuarte Dance Works (DDW) artistic and educational mission is to perform in both traditional and non-traditional venues, and to collaborate with multiple artists and organizations. In addition to educational programs, DDW intends to serve the communities by providing public performances of various forms of contemporary dance. Director’s StatementArt and education are an endless process of sharing. Collaboration in all levels is key. This collaboration, this interplay between art and education, is what feeds and sustains the artist in me. The roles of artist and educator are intricately and beautifully intertwined. The creation of Duarte Dance Works allows me to bring my philosophy to both artists and audiences. With DDW I want to heighten cultural appreciation in contemporary Dance. About DDWDuarte Dance Works (DDW), a contemporary dance company, is founded and directed by internationally known Brazilian artist and dancer, Armando Duarte. The company’s inaugural performance was held in July, 2002, and showcased Duarte’s original choreography including two world premieres. Featured artists were Houston Ballet principal Dominic Walsh, Houston Ballet soloist Fernando Moraga, former Ballet de Santiago soloist Paola Georgudis, and dance alumni and students from The University of Iowa. For the past five years DDW has continue its tradition of artistic excellence with performances in Iowa City, Davenport, IA, Louisville, KY, Grand Island, NE, and Houston, TX. DDW dancers and students have the opportunity to perform side-by-side at major venues throughout the country. An integral part of Duarte Dance Works’ artistic and educational mission is performing in both traditional and nontraditional venues, and collaborating with multiple artists and organizations. In addition to educational programs, DDW intends to serve the communities by providing public performances of various forms of contemporary dance. CreditsThe Company
