223 STUDENTS CHOSE TO PURSUE STUDIES AT UUM CENTRE FOR FOUNDATION STUDIES IN MANAGEMENT

asasi webUUM ONLINE: "Previously, I heard various perceptions about 麻豆直播 (UUM), they however did little to stop me from choosing this University to further my studies in the Foundation Studies in Management Programme," said fellow student, Ms. Nurul Norhidayah Mustafa Zainal Abidin,  from Terengganu.

According to her, many of her friends were astounded to learn that she accepted the offer to study at UUM as many of them friend were under the impression that UUM was located in close proximity to the jungle and its reputation can never match the standings of formidable universities located in urban areas.

She said, she received an offer from a university in Kuala Lumpur, but she declined the offer and instead chose to come to UUM. She also said that UUM had some of the best study programmes on offer and it had also received numerous recognitions.

"Before trying my luck to apply for this foundation programme, I was planning to continue my studies in Form Six because I did not want to be away from my family, but after receiving advice and encouragement from my school counselling teacher, I applied and went through the interview process and here I am now.

"The first time I set foot on UUM grounds, I was filled with awe. I was excited to see the very extensive campus grounds and for the first time I saw deer here. I am confident I have made the right decision by choosing UUM," she said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Khairatun Nadiah Ikhwan Hafiz said she first found out about UUM through a senior at Gopeng Integrated Boarding School where she studied before deciding to make UUM as the University to further her studies after completing her Malaysian Certificate of Education (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia). 

"I plan to pursue my undergraduate studies in either accounting or business and sit for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) while undergoing my undergraduate programme,鈥 said the lass from Parit Buntar, Perak.

A total of 223 students chose to pursue their studies in the Foundation Studies in Management Programme Session 2020/2021 Cohort 7 for the duration of one year.

Director of the UUM Centre for Foundation Studies in Management, Assoc. Prof Dr Munif Zarirruddin Fikri Nordin said, out of the total of 223 students, 53 were male students and 170 were female students, and they had been placed at the TNB and MAS student residential hall (INASIS) respectively.

According to him, student registration was done on rotational basis in order to avoid congestion and the university also wanted to ensure that the standard operating procedures (SOP) such as the use of face masks, physical distancing and use of hand sanitizers were adhered to.

"We also requested that each student be accompanied by one parent or guardian only during this registration process and preliminary information was provided to them during the online orientation and registration week carried out on 18 July.

Dr. Munif Zarirruddin said face-to-face classes started on 4 August.  He also expressed his confidence that staff at the Centre for Foundation Studies in Management carried out the registration process well and were able to ensure that the registration process adhered to the SOP as the University was well-equipped with comfortable facilities and were able to accommodate the number of students who registered.
