5,757 Graduands Await The 32nd UUM Convocation Ceremony In Full Anticipation

5757 GRADUANDS AWAIT THE 32ND UUM CONVOCATION CEREMONY IN FULL ANTICIPATION

Alor Setar - Hearts are a flutter for some 5,757 graduands as they wait in full anticipation for the day they will receive their respective scrolls at the 32nd Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (UUM) Convocation Ceremony which will be held for five days from 19 to 23 October at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said all the graduands will be honoured in nine sessions and from the grand total, 4,467 graduands were undergraduates and the remaining 1,290 were postgraduate graduands - Doctor of Philosophy (272), Doctor of Management (6) and Doctor of Business Administration (18), Master's degree (960) and Postgraduate Diploma (34).

According to him, the historic day will begin with the conferment of the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy  Degree (Corporate Management) to the Director of KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah Sheikh Bakir and Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy Degree (International Business) to Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad, Dato' Khor Swee Wah @ Koh Bee Leng.

"Apart from the Hononary Degrees, UUM will also confer the title of Emeritus Professor  to the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Entrepreneurship & Finance Sustainability), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Prof Dato' Wira Dr Mohd Salleh Din and the Dean of the School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS ), AlBukhary International University (AIU), Prof Dato' Dr Jamalludin Sulaiman.

"These academic and public figures will receive the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degree and the title of Emeritus Professor  which will be presented to them by UUM Chancellor, His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah at the first session," he said at the 32nd UUM Convocation Ceremony media conference at TH Hotel, recently.

According to him, the 32nd UUM Convocation Ceremony will witness a total of 556 non-Malaysian graduands from 28 countries graduating with China having the highest number of graduands (122), followed by Indonesia (112) and those from  Palestine (5).

In addition, he said, this year, a total of 649 graduands (14.5%) from the Bachelor's Degree obtained First Class and 30 percent were from the B40 bracket.

"UUM also produced the first batch of 32 graduands of the Master of Arts Nationhood Studies at the ceremony, in addition, the ceremony will also honour six graduands with disabilities and eight Orang Asli graduands as well as 748 graduates selected to receive 30 main university awards including the newly introduced Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Leadership Gold Medal.

"To further enliven the 32nd Convocation Ceremony, the Convocation Fair aptly themed, 'Love UUM' will be held from 16 until 23 October, from 9am to 11:30 pm at the Convocation Fair site located at the UUM ROTU Parading Grounds and within the UUM vicinity," he said.

A total of 264 sales lots will be available including 28 sales lots for student, will occupy most of the Convocation Fair site.  Other attractions that can be found during the convocation fair include various academic, entrepreneurship, cultural and arts, sports and recreational activities.
