APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED AT iLeAP TO DEVELOP UNIVERSITY

Key office bearers of universities who are undergoing the Leadership Cafe & Individual Leadership Advancement Plan (iLeAP) programme are expected to apply the acquired knowledge to help develop their respective universities.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said Leadership Cafe & iLeAP focused on the mechanisms that had been applied by the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) in the profiling of higher education leadership and would also share profiles for the augmentation of individual leadership competence roles.

According to him, the results of this profile would also help each individual identify their strengths as well as with the improvement of their respective leadership competencies. These individuals will subsequently undergo other leadership development programmes offered by AKEPT.

"From what I gathered the university's key office bearers comprising of University Management Committees (JPUs), Deans and Directors of departments who go through the profile evaluation process by AKEPT will receive their report card, apart from being afforded with the opportunity to gain exposure and share knowledge.

"I believe the scope and content of the iLeAP programme will provide exposure and further enhance the administrative and leadership skills of the key office bearers at the respective centres of authorities, especially amongst the newly appointed key office bearers who are at the helm of the administrative posts," he said at the Leadership Cafe & iLeAP programme held at EDC Hotels & Resorts recently.

He also reiterated that an organization would have members who could be regarded as part of the team and team leaders played an important role because they would have many advantages over individuals.

He said that the most significant advantages would be in terms of experience, skills, information acquisition, job division and job mobilization, therefore leadership competence and teamwork would be essential in implementing goals.

According to him, the culture of organisation was widely designed and influenced by the leadership style of its leader who had the ability to form a conducive organizational climate to generate better working performance.

Director of AKEPT, Prof Dr. Nordin Yahaya also enlightened attendees with AKEPT's strategic plan for 2019 to 2025, as well as the process or procedure of the appointment of Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the initiatives implemented by AKEPT.

In the programme, participants had the opportunity to participate in the iLeAP interaction session with AKEPT Lead Accessor, Mr. Mujab Sungip, followed by AKEPT presentation by AKEPT's Deputy Director (Talent and Governance Development Centre), Assoc. Prof Dr Ismie Roha Mohamad Jais and after that the 'Up Close & Personal' session with Dato' Sri Ibrahim Ahmad, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).
