ASPIRING STUDENT LEADERS SHALL ILLUMINATE THE NATION'S FUTURE
UUM ONLINE: Students will have the opportunity to make significant impact on the future leadership of our country. By developing leadership skills, they can become advocates for religion, nation, and country.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, in order to achieve national success, it was crucial to ensure that individuals became highly educated, skilled, and well-rounded.
"This is because our goal is to develop people who excel not only academically, but also possess extensive knowledge and the ability to address societal challenges and problems."
"I believe that the student empowerment agenda advocated by student leaders includes a range of initiatives and strategies that demand the importance of students’ rights, justice, and active participation in higher education institutions," he said.
He further reiterated that the amendments to the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU 1971), the AUKU (Amendment) Bill 2023, sought to provide students with financial autonomy for managing student fundraising activities. This would certainly streamline and expedite financial procedures for the student body.
"Similarly, several other sections have also been amended to ensure an even distribution of student body control.
"I hope that following the AUKU amendment, the Student Representative Council (SRC) will become more prominent, engaged, and strive for excellence, creativity, and innovation in tandem with civil society leadership," he said at the Intellectual Discourse: Madani Student Leadership Post AUKU Amendment 2023 at the UUM-EDC.
This discourse featured young leaders, including Mr. Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the Political Secretary to the Minister of Finance; Special Officer to the Deputy Prime Minister 2, Mr. Neow Choo Seong; and lawyer, Mr. Ku Amirul Faiz Ku Seman.
He described UUM as fortunate to have been approached by three young and highly experienced individuals who have dedicated themselves for a considerable period of time and have navigated the challenging AUKU regulations to share knowledge and guidance.
"This advice is very useful for individuals looking to enhance their potential and abilities in the field of leadership. By implementing these suggestions, students can pave their way to a future filled with outstanding leadership and success.
"I would like to congratulate the programme secretariat for organising this discourse that has also welcomed the mandate and main focus of the Honourable Minister of Higher Education. The emphasis of the programme is in line with the direction set by MoHE, which aims to prepare the best talent in the country," he said at the programme organised by the Student Development Division, Student Affairs Department, managed by the Student Representative Council of Â鶹ֱ²¥.
