CONTRIBUTIONS BY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CAN HELP ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
UUM ONLINE: Monetary contribution and the role of the Alumni Association are seen as the contributing factors that can assist in ensuring the success of student development activities at this University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said that with more than 100,000 of its members nationwide, the UUM Alumni Association would be able to make good income even with a collection of MYR1 from each member.
According to him, the UUM Alumni Association can generate income through the collection of an annual fee of at least MYR10 per person with the increasing number of its members every year.
"With the value of the said collection, it would also be sufficient for the implementation of various high-impact activities that can elevate the name of the University.
"In fact, I propose the setting up of the UUM Alumni Chair and also the Alumni Scholarship with income owned by the association as a result of the annual fee collection.
"With this Alumni Scholarship, it can help potential students who are still studying at UUM, while the Alumni Chair will indirectly exalt the UUM brand. There will even be alumni who will act as advisors. Both these establishments are for the progress of the University," he said at the Presentation of Alumni Association Contribution to UUM for the Production of PPE held at the Vice-Chancellor's Meeting Room.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed hope that the donations presented by the Alumni Association would be on-going as the assistance given could help the University in giving back to the students.
At the same time, he also called on the Alumni Association to encourage its members to become members of the UUM Golf and Recreation Club not only to play golf, but also to strengthen their relations by interacting with each other.
The UUM Alumni Association was represented by its President, Dr Mohd Azlan Yahya who presented UUM with a contribution amounting to MYR15,000 to help in the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mohd Azlan said the Alumni Association had carried out many community-based activities to help those in need such as repairing damaged homes, giving financial assistance to victims of fires and etc.
