UUM ONLINE: Touched by the sacrifice made by the frontline personnel in dealing with the outbreak of the Covid-19, the students of Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) have successfully produced Prowins face shields to be donated to the frontline personnel.

Covid-19 Prowins Commandant, Mr. Muhammad Idzam Rosidi said the difficulty in obtaining face shields was the very reason that encouraged them to produce the face shields themselves.

According to him, it only took them 10 minutes to carefully prepare one face shield.

“Every day, we strive to produce 100 units of the face shield depending on the demands.  These face shields are then distributed to UUM students and staff including to hospitals.

"The production of these face shields is expected to help those in need in the country's fight against the Covid-19 outbreak," he said.

Meanwhile, Assistant Resident of the Proton Student Residential Hall (INASIS), Ms. Siti Nurul Shahira Dzulfikar Adzwa said the initiative which began on 30 March was in collaboration with the Student Affairs Department.

She further added that the Prowins face shield project involved students from the Proton and Tradewinds INASIS.  Students from both INASIS volunteered to produce the face shields.

“To date, we have distributed about 50 units of face shield to all UUM frontline personnel namely the University Health Centre, the Security Department and members of the Student Affairs department.

"We are also ready to help those in need including the community surrounding the campus, in fact priority is given to the nearby community," she said.

The Principal of the Tradewinds and Proton INASIS, Dr. Rohafiz Sabar said the Prowins face shield came into production when it became increasingly difficult to obtain them in the market, besides the high price.

She said the effort was also in line with the recommendation made by the Minister of Higher Education that encouraged students to get engaged in beneficial activities during the MCO period.
