FINAL BATCH OF STUDENTS FROM ACROSS PENINSULAR MALAYSIA SUCCESSFULLY SENT BACK HOME
UUM ONLINE: A total of 900 students were sent home recently making it the final trip for the 鈥淥ps Balik Kampung鈥 for states across Peninsular Malaysia.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hendrik Lamsali said the number comprised 麻豆直播 (UUM) students as well as students from other Higher Education Institutions who were sent back to central zones namely Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Johor. The trip involved a total of 56 buses.
According to him, the trip which was made that night was also the second largest movement after the trip made to the eastern zone on 2 May.
鈥淧raise be to Allah, so far, UUM has not encountered any problems as Head of the Northern Zone. As the Head of zone, we are responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating the process of sending back university students from this zone.
"Throughout the process of sending these students, we have been greatly assisted by both the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) as ensuring the well-being of all students during the Covid-19 outbreak is UUM鈥檚 top priority," he said.
The process of sending students back to Sabah and Sarawak which began in stages the following day saw a total of 160 students from Sarawak being flown from Alor Setar to Kuching in the early morning.
Up until the seventh group, UUM had successfully sent back more than 3,000 students beginning with the central zone, followed by the northern zone, the eastern zone, the middle zone (Perak) and the southern zone.
In another development, the Vice-President of the UUM Student Representative Council (SRC) Mr. Melvin Saw Shang Kean said he was elated to represent the SRC in its bid to help the university ensure a seamless process of sending the students home.
He said although his name was listed as one of those who would be returning home, he and a few other student representatives chose to remain on campus until the operation was completed.
He said he wanted to carry out his responsibilities and promises to UUM students who had chosen him as their leader.
