UUM ONLINE: The spirit of Malaysia Cares (Malaysia Prihatin) is manifested not only for frontline personnel, but also all Malaysians from various walks of life who are also unsung heroes.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said, fellow Malaysians came forward to offer help and support regardless of race, religion and creed, thus giving a good sign that proves that the people in this country can unite both at times of ease and hardship.

According to him, the spirit of Malaysia Cares also must be galvanised in all aspects of community life, not only to end the Covid-19 pandemic, but also to revitalise the economy and people's lives as a result of the pandemic affecting the world economy.

According to him this spirit ought to be etched into everyone’s hearts and minds in order to strengthen the foundations of unity, harmony and well-being of Malaysians by embodying the National Principles (Rukun Negara).

"For the current generation, the principles of National Principles need to be bolstered to strengthen unity among Malaysians.

"The National Principles aim to form strong unity because the principles encompassed in it are clearly the key to harmony and racial unity for the success and stability of Malaysia," he said when he officiated the Launching Ceremony of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2020 UUM level held at the Foyer of the Chancellery Building.

He reiterated that the National Day celebration aptly themed Malaysia Cares also coincided with the government's aspiration that all Malaysians who came together to fight the enemy at this time namely the COVID-19 pandemic, while being concerned could be seen in the government's initiatives that included aspects namely economic, welfare and sustainability of Malaysians.

In conjunction with the National Month celebration, according to him as Malaysians, the Jalur Gemilang should be flown as a sign of love and spirit of patriotism towards the country.

"However, self-identity is not only revealed through symbolic actions such as displaying the flag and singing the national anthem but should also be highlighted through a sense of pride in the country's achievements," said he who also officiated the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2020 ceremony. He also presented the Jalur Gemilang to representatives of the procession contingent, in addition to reciting the National Principles led by representatives of the Security Department. The event then witnessed a lively and colourful Merdeka procession.

At the ceremony, he also extended his appreciation and gratitude to all UUM staff involved in organising the very meaningful ceremony in the atmosphere of the new norm.
