Graduates Must Contribute Back To The Society
Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (UUM) graduates were reminded to contribute back to the community after successfully completing their studies from the university.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the success of graduates today was the result of the efforts of the various parties, so graduates need to contribute back to the community so that they would not frustrate the expectations of the community. Graduate should becoming people of quality.
According to him, as graduates step into the working world, they will face a new world filled with adversities.
“There are those who will hold high positions in any government or private sector or choose to be entrepreneurs, venture into business, choose to get married and so on.
"My advice is that whatever the career options you choose, do not forget that this success you achieved today is the result of a concerted effort of many parties," he said at the 32nd. UUM Convocation Ceremony at Mu'adzam Shah Hall.
The Vice-Chancellor said he was pleased that UUM graduates had a good reputation and were always the employee of choice, in fact the marketability of UUM graduates stood at encouraging level of 81 percent.
According to him, since its establishment in 1984, UUM had achieved a great deal of successes which in one fell swoop boost the University's reputation worldwide.
He said the University did not only excel in the aspect of ranking, in fact its academic staff had also won quite a few top national education awards, managed to publish scholarly articles in high impact journals and also the alumni career achievements in various fields and industry sectors as well as students achievements in academic and co-curriculum.
“In response to the command of the Chancellor to be actively involved in the development of the local community, UUM has mobilized the 1 School 1 District project (1PP1D) which will help each district in Kedah develop a more organised and efficient socio-economic programme guided by complete data bank and use of blockchain implementation method.
“The University's expertise in communications and information technology (ICT) has also been leveraged through the involvement of the UUM Institute for Advanced and Smart Digital Opportunities in strategic cooperation with the Secretary's Office of the Kedah State Government aimed at developing the ICT Strategic Plan (PSICT) of the new State Secretary's Office or a period of five years from 2019 to 2023," he said.
To ensure that University remained relevant to future civil, social, economic and moral issues, UUM will continue to contribute to socio-economic development, especially the state of Kedah.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that latest, UUM would establish the UUM Logistics Institute in collaboration with PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd. in the pursuit of developing a Special Economic Zone (SEZB) logistics hub at Bukit Kayu Hitam.
In addition, he said, to ensure that UUM continued to advance, it had set clear goals and plans for international development, including forging international partnerships with world-leading industry players and institutions of higher learning.
"As I conclude, I hope that all graduands will not forget their alma mater that is UUM and continue to contribute towards the development of the campus where all of you once studied and I hope that the knowledge gained here will continue to be used for the good of humanity," he said.
