HONORING THE ROYAL DECREE, 4740 PEOPLE RECEIVED THEIR VACCINES AT THE UUM IHE OUTREACH VACCINATION CENTRE

ppvUUM ONLINE: Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) honours the decree of His Royal Highness (HRH) Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman to collaborate with the Kedah state government to accelerate the increase in immunisation rates in the state of Kedah.

As a result, UUM continued the operation of the UUM IHE Outreach Vaccination Centre on the 20 and 21 of August in order to accelerate the inoculation process for locals, particularly in the Kubang Pasu district.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said that over the course of two days, a total of 4,740 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered of which 2,382 were given on Friday and 2,358 on Saturday.

"I am hopeful that the immunisation will raise the percentage of vaccinations in Kedah, assisting the country in achieving herd immunity quickly.

"In fact, I am aware of the importance of this vaccination in preventing the spread of COVID-19, as the number of positive cases in the state of Kedah continues to rise every day, approaching four figures, which is quite concerning," he said.

The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) have all collaborated on the establishment of the UUM IHE Outreach Vaccination Centre.

The Vice-Chancellor also thanked the MOH officials, the University Health Centre (PKU), and volunteers from not only UUM, but also non-governmental organisations (NGOs), for their assistance in ensuring the smooth flow of the vaccination process.

He stated that UUM was more than just a repository of information; it also served the community by becoming a venue for the inoculation process.

On 17 August, the Sultan of Kedah expressed his sorrow over the number of new COVID-19 infections reported daily in the state of Kedah, which had been above four figures for nearly a month.

In this regard, HRH urged private hospitals, general practitioner clinics, and all corporate and private bodies to collaborate to provide support, assistance, and contributions in accordance with their various responsibilities, roles, and skills in order to accelerate the vaccination rates.
