UUM ONLINE: Bangi - Graduates can now rest easy and worry not about the issue of unemployment as the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has recently introduced the National Economic Reform Plan (PENJANA) Career Advancement Programme (KPT-CAP).

The Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Dr. Noraini Ahmad in her speech said that by 2020 a total of 300,000 graduates are expected to graduate and taking into account the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, MOHE projected 25 percent or 75,000 prospective graduates may be affected by unemployment within six (6) months after graduation.

According to her, to help increase the marketability of graduates, the government has allocated a sum of MYR100 million to MOHE to implement the KPT-CAP PENJANA Programme.

She reiterated that there are three main programmes run by MOHE under the provisions of PENJANA namely Job Matching and Replacement, Entrepreneurship Continuous Programme and Gig Economy.

鈥淛ob Matching and Replacement is a programme designed to improve the skills of participants based on industry needs where graduates who successfully underwent the programme will be offered jobs in companies that have provided employment guarantees through their letter of commitment.

"Continuous Entrepreneurship Programme is a training programme that will enhance the skills and knowledge of participants in the field of entrepreneurship enabling in the setting up of start-up companies whereby further assistance in the form of financial provisions will be provided by recognized financing agencies. Meanwhile Gig Economy can help participants generate income through freelancing activities,鈥� she said at the KPT-CAP PENJANA Launching Ceremony at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, recently.

She said all the programmes planned under the KPT-CAP PENJANA fund are the manifestations of the Ministry's commitment to produce graduates who are committed, of quality, balanced, entrepreneurial and competitive at all levels.

According to her skilled graduates are the backbone to the prosperity and well-being of the country on the long run.

According to her, MOHE is targeting at least 20,000 graduates that  will benefit from the KPT-CAP PENJANA programme and so far 140 programmes have been arranged involving synergies with not less than 100 companies.

"I am confident that through the right strategy, we will be able to achieve more outstanding success to help increase the marketability of graduates and at the same time contribute to the economic empowerment of the country," she said.

Graduates can now browse the Graduates Reference Hub for Employment and Training (GREaT) portal to apply for the KPT-CAP programme.
