Meor Muhammad Afif Aiman Emerges As Champion Of UUM Three Minute Thesis
Mr. Meor Muhammad Afif Aiman Abu Bakar emerged as champion of the UUM "Three Minute Thesis" (3MT) held at UUM OYAGSB Studio recently.
Meanwhile, Mr. Qasim Ali Nisar came in second and third was, Ms. Rachma Indriyani. The winners each took home MYR600, MYR400 and MYR200 cash prizes respectively and trophies.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic & International, Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim said that the 3MT programme was first introduced by the University of Queensland, Australia in 2008 witnessed competition that involved PhD students presenting their theses within three minutes using one slide.
Speaking at the ceremony which was organized by the Awang Had Salleh Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (AHSGS) in collaboration with Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School Business (OYAGSB) and Ghazali Shafie Graduate School of Government (GSGSG), this competition was aimed at challenging students to present complicated research information in an easy, accessible and attractive manner.
"Congratulations to all participants who managed to compete at the university level after being selected at your respective Schools. I believe that such activities will put our students in line with the rest of the leading universities.
"Through this contest the participants are able to increase awareness and their confidence level in preparation for future viva presentation sessions.
"Students exhibit their creativity in delivering their ideas in very limited time. Imagine presenting a write-up of 80,000 words in 3 minutes to the public. I got excited when I saw the performances delivered by the participants, “she said before opening the ceremony.
The competition is aimed at evaluating the ability of PhD students in delivering their ideas and research findings effectively.
In Malaysia, the 3MT competition at the Public University level is held annually where students compete in three categories namely Science and Technology, Engineering and Social Sciences.
UUM first participated in the competition in 2016 and hosted the 3MT Malaysia competition in the same year.
The 3MT is in line with the University's aspiration of producing graduates who are able to put forth their ideas to the public to foster a more dynamic mindset.
The 3MT competition will be implemented in a format that has been determined by the University of Queensland. In the first level, representatives of each college will compete to represent their respective schools.
The university 3MT winners will represent UUM at the national level scheduled to be held at the National Education Museum, Tuanku Bainun Library and Main Auditorium, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) on 25 June 2019.
