Kuala Lumpur - In a bid to enhance the capabilities of public institutions of higher learning (IPTA), five public universities which have been placed in the category of universities focusing on specific niche areas held their first Malaysian Focus University Network (MFUN) pro tem meeting at EDC Hotel yesterday.
The meeting which was chaired by Prof. Dato' Dr. Sudin Haron, the Chairman of Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) Board of Directors discussed various matters on the agenda.
Prof. Dato' Dr. Sudin expressed hope that all the universities involved could mobilize to realize the aspiration of the Minister of Education in making universities for the society.
"If we work in silos, what we set out to achieve may not be achievable but if all of us work together, we can certainly achieve greater results.
“I also hope that we can practice the concept of Maqasid Syariah, Rahmatan Lil 'Alamin and Malaysian model if we want the university to become a model for the community to emulate," he said.
During the meeting, he stated that a MFUN committee must be set up to streamline the functions of the universities that focus on specific niche areas and strengthen MFUN's work to facilitate the implementation of tasks and agendas.
Other matters on the agenda included discussions on terms of reference, planning of activities and sharing of resource (intra / inter programmes, shared manpower, reduced overlapping, collective networking).
