PROF. DR. SHAHIMI MOHTAR IS UUM鈥橲 12TH. DVC (A&I)

tnca baruUUM ONLINE: Provost of 麻豆直播 Kuala Lumpur Campus (UUMKL), Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar has been appointed as the new 麻豆直播 (UUM) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International). His appointment commenced yesterday.

At the special ceremony held at the Senate Room yesterday morning, Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar received his letter of appointment from the Ministry of Higher Education. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani who presented Prof. Dr. Shahimi with his appointment letter also witnessed the handing-over of notes from the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (A&I,) Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim to the newly appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (A&I).  

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said taking on the responsibility as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) would not be an easy task because it must add value to the University.

According to him, it was important for a Deputy Vice-Chancellor to possess the expertise, be responsibility and be ever willingness to sacrifice to drive the excellence of the university, especially UUM.

He also expressed hope that the newly appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (A&I), Prof. Dr. Shahimi would be able to assume the responsibility well and able to contribute new ideas for the development of the University especially in mobilizing the leadership of the University towards achieving its strategic goals related to teaching and learning as well as internationalization.

"Soon UUM will enter into a more challenging phase, Phase 3 of the Strategic Plan. With the addition of a new core, I hope to get good cooperation to further drive this university.

"I would like to see that we move as a large unit cooperating intently without harbouring feelings of envy or dissatisfaction. Together as a team, contributing our energy to make UUM a renowned university," he said at the Deputy Vice-Chancellor's (Academic and International) Handing-over of Notes Ceremony held at the Senate Room.

At the event, the Vice-Chancellor also extended his heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim for her tireless contribution in assisting the University implement its planned agenda and ensuring that all UUM academic affairs run smoothly, particularly during the challenging times when the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country forcing the University to change its Teaching and Learning activities to online or remote learning.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Shahimi thanked the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad for appointing him. He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the Secretary General of MOHE as well as the Director General of Higher Education, Chairman of the University Board of Directors and Vice-Chancellor for their support and belief in him.

According to him, he humbly accepted the position which came with a big responsibility and not easy to take on but he believed that with the support and encouragement of all, he will be able to help steer an important segment of UUM in the right direction.

He said UUM had succeeded in achieving excellence with relentless efforts to be in an excellent place not only in the country, but also the world over.

"My heartfelt appreciation and gratitude go to Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim who has placed UUM at such an elevated position. With her as the DVC (A&I), UUM obtained various successes and achievements. She also successfully implemented many academic agendas.

"I also hope that I will be given time and mandate to plan programmes and agendas that will propel the University towards further excellence.  As such, I humbly appeal for the continuous support as obtained by Prof Dr Yusnidah previously,鈥 said the former Provost of UUM Kuala Lumpur Campus (UUMKL) (2018- 2020).

The 11th Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Yusnidah said she was also grateful for being given the opportunity to serve as the DVC (A&I) and when she accepted the post, she was determined to help the deans, directors under her as the DVC (A&I) to elevate UUM as the Eminent Management University.

She also expressed hope that UUM will continue to set new records by becoming an institution of reference and the University of choice for students to further their higher education.
