Professor's Corner is the latest attraction at Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) when a gallery-style exhibition displaying the works and publications produced by UUM professors was launched recently.

The Chairman of the University Board of Directors, Dato' Prof. Dr. Sudin Harun said Professor's Corner is a manifestation of UUM in its efforts to encourage the academic staff to publish scholarly books.

"In my opinion the Professor's Corner will be the driving force for young academic staff to get involved in writing, because it is only natural for academia to see scholarly materials that they produced be seen or read by the community.

"With the establishment of the Professor's Corner, students and people who visit the Sultanah Bahiyah Library (PSB) will be informed of the contributions made by the professors here, according to their respective fields and expertise," he said during his maiden visit to the gallery after he officiated the 35th Anniversary of UUM Foundation Day Celebration at Mu'adzam Shah Hall.

He also reiterated that the Professor's Corner set up in UUM is the first in Malaysia and perhaps the first in the world.

"When I visited the libraries of universities abroad back then when I was an academician, I don’t recall coming across any Professor's Corner or the likes. So, as a management university, this is an innovation that we have made, "he explained.

He further added that the aim of setting up Professor's Corner coincided with the aspirations of the Ministry of Education that is to promote the reading culture as well as to make the library as the source of reference towards creating a society that reads and gains knowledge.

Also present at the event were UUM Registrar, Mr. Baharudin Yaacob; Chief Librarian, Mr. Salleh Hudin Mustaffa and PSB staff.
