PROMOTED ACADEMIC STAFF URGED TO ENHANCE TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE
UUM ONLINE: The Budget 2021 which was tabled recently is set to bring about immense benefits to Malaysians, particularly students studying at Institutions of Higher Learning when the broadband services are increased to the best possible level.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said during the recent tabling of Budget 2021, the government introduced eight initiatives to help students and the marketability of graduates.
Among them, the issuance of vouchers, improving infrastructure, implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Lifelong Learning programmes.
"Most interestingly, the communication network is considered as a third entity which plays an important role to the country in addition to water and electricity.
"Communication network will be intensified as a third utility in line with the government's efforts of allocating MYR500 million next year to implement the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative to enhance the country's digital network initiative covering more
than 430 schools throughout Malaysia," he said at the Presentation of Letters of Promotion to Academic Staff Ceremony at the Senate Room.
He said UUM was also in the works of setting up the Centre for the Studies of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to drive the country's higher education in line with the country's aspiration of becoming an education hub.
At the same time, the Vice-Chancellor also extended his heartiest congratulations to the newly promoted academic staff and expressed hope that their exuberance and commitment towards UUM will continue to flourish and further develop UUM into becoming the Eminent Management University.
According to him, UUM made history as many of its academic staff were being promoted. It also showed that UUM was maturing. The university would not have been able to develop to what it is now, had it not been for the help and support given by the fellow academics and administrators.
At the ceremony, a total of 30 academic staff namely Prof. Dr. Rosna Awang Hashim, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zaini Abd Karim, Prof. Dr. Nur Adiana Hiau Abdullah, and Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar received their letters of promotion as Professor (VK6).
Other academic staff who received their promotion as Professor (VK7) include Prof. Dr. Chandrakantan Subramaniam, Prof. Dr. Fauziah Abdul Rahim, Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Majid, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fuad, Prof. Dr. Maznah Mat Kasim, Prof. Dr. Ram Al Jaffri Saad, Prof. Dr. Lim Hock Eam and Prof. Dr. Nurwati Ashikkin Ahmad Zaluki.
Apart from that, at the same ceremony, the Deputy Bursar, Mr Abdul Roni Baharom also received his letter of promotion to grade W54.
