RESEARCH COACHING PROGRAMME BOOSTS KNOWLEDGE OF RESEARCHERS IN RESEARCH GRANT PROCUREMENT

To enhance the knowledge of researchers in research grant procurement, the Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) Research and Innovation Management Centre (RIMC) in collaboration with the Tunku Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM) organised the Research Coaching Programme at the Seminar Hall B, Convention Centre recently.

The programme conducted by a renowned Australian scholar, Emeritus Prof Keith A. Houghton was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Prof Dr Ayoib Che Ahmad.

Prof. Ayoib in his opening speech said that based on the MyRA (Malaysia Research Assessment) data, it was revealed that Principal Investigator (PI) for UUM had shown a declining trend over the years so it was important for the university to learn strategies for obtaining external grants such as industry grants and international grants.

"Today, we are fortunate to have Professor Keith to enlighten all of us with his expertise and knowledge in the areas of Research, Publication and Supervision.

"These interrelated areas are important to the university especially to increase visibility and international standing," he said.

He said the overall goal of the programme was to increase researchers' knowledge on how to obtain grants and the skills needed to become a great researcher.
The programme attracted a total of 101 researchers including those from outside of UUM.

The experience and expertise sharing sessions carried out by Prof Keith during the two-day programme was divided into four topics namely Dealing with Journal Reviewers and Editors - How to Add 'Punch' to your Research and Get Published ?; Supervising PhD Students - What You Need to Get Successful and Timely Completions - A Case-Study Approach; Research Ethics - Case Studies on What We Can Learn From the Mistakes of Others and Research and International Collaborations - Being Involved in Industry / International Engaged Research.
