RM100,000 PETRONAS ZAKAT ALLOCATED TO ASNAF STUDENTS AT UUM
UUM ONLINE: 鈥淚ndeed, zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakat] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveller - an obligation [imposed] by Allah. Petronas, through its Islamic Welfare Body (BAKIP), has donated zakat contributions to support 100 麻豆直播 students.
The mock cheque presentation ceremony was officiated by the CEO of Petronas Chemical Fertiliser Kedah Sdn. Bhd., Mdm. Khalidah Ambiah to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan at the Foyer of Sultan Sallehuddin Chancellery Building on Thursday.
Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan expressed his gratitude to BAKIP for their generous distribution of zakat amounting to RM100,000 under the Asy-Syakirin Fund to support asnaf students at UUM.
According to him, this contribution would not only help alleviate the burden of UUM students but also demonstrate the commitment of all parties to strengthening the culture of welfare and unity within the university community.
He mentioned that the Ihsan Firtri (i-Fitri) distribution of RM1,000 was distributed to selected students from the asnaf group whose family incomes are below RM1,000, with the majority of recipients being from the asnaf group, with incomes below RM500, including orphans.
鈥淭his zakat contribution is not merely a symbolic act of providing financial aid, but also a manifestation of deep sense of social responsibility and compassion.
鈥淭his zakat assistance aims to serve as a catalyst for the drive and motivation of UUM students to continue to strive for excellence in both their academic pursuits and personal lives,鈥 he said.
He expressed hope that the students would utilise the aid effectively and strive diligently to achieve success.
Meanwhile, Mdm. Khalidah expressed her appreciation to UUM for welcoming Petronas鈥檚 visit and for accepting this zakat contribution.
She stated that in March 2017, Petronas received zakat authorisation from the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), which was then entrusted to the Asy-Syakirin Fund to manage the zakat contribution.
She stated that the trust fund was established in 2003 with the purpose of offering support and aid to underprivileged students.
鈥淭his year, Petronas received an allocation of RM1 million to be distributed to 10 public universities, and UUM is fortunate to have been selected for the state of Kedah.
This is an initiative by the company that consistently emphasises the welfare of the people and the advancement of education within the state,鈥 she said.
The presentation of the RM100,000 mock cheque was also witnessed by UUM COLGIS Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Harlida Abdul Wahab; Dean of the School of Languages, Civilisation, and Philosophy, Prof. Dr Shukri bin Ahmad; Dean of the School of Government, Assoc. Prof. Sr. Dr Mohamad Sukeri Khalid; Dean of the School of Creative Industry Management and Performing Arts, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr Adzrool Idzwan Ismail: and senior officials from UUM and Petronas Chemical Fertiliser Kedah Sdn. Bhd.
