UUM ONLINE: The perseverance and patience of waiting for the day to be reunited with family members finally arrived for 309 Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) students when they safely departed for their respective hometowns yesterday afternoon.

Of the total, 207 students boarded buses and vans provided by the University, while the rest travelled back to their respective hometowns located around Kedah and Penang.

The process of sending students back to their respective hometowns which started at 11:30 am began with a registration and screening session by the nurses of the University Health Centre (PKU).  The students boarding process which took place at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall started at 3pm and present to witness the process was Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani.

The Vice-Chancellor said he was grateful that the university students were finally allowed to return to their hometowns thanks to their patience.

According to him, UUM had complied with all the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set by the government in ensuring that the health of the students was in good condition, and that the students also demonstrated utmost discipline by adhering to every directive issued from time to time.

"I would also like to thank all the staff who worked day and night for almost two months in ensuring the safety and welfare of the students as well as to the police and firefighters who have been instrumental in the process of sending students back to their respective hometowns since yesterday.

Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir said although students were allowed to return home, they were reminded to access the online teaching and learning (PdP) activities which started on 27 April.

According to him, students should not be preoccupied with other matters because the semester was not over and that student still had another two months of study to complete the semester which included revision and examinations.

"Should you have problems accessing the internet, be sure to get in touch or communicate with your lecturers so that the university-based online or remote learning system can be effectively carried out.

"I fervently hope that students will maintain their good health by practising good personal hygiene and staying home because the Movement Control Order (MCO) directive is still being enforced until situation gets better," he said.
