UUM ONLINE: The Prime Minister's announcement of the one-off aid of MYR200 brought joy to students at the university.

Communication student, Ms. Nurul Fazliana Madihah Abd Ghafar said the one-off assistance which will be paid starting May would be of great help to students like her.

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the assistance as it would ease her burden, and that it could be used for her expenses at the university throughout the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) should it be further extended.

“Initially, I never expected there would be any assistance for students as such the announcement came as a surprise as I did not envisage the Prime Minister would be so concerned with the current situation which students are in.

"The aid received will be used well as it is the essential source during emergency especially for us Malaysians who are facing the issue of the COVID-19 outbreak," she said.

Meanwhile, another Communication student, Ms. Nur Shafiqah Rozizan said the MYR200 aid was sufficient to ensure that as students, they were able to buy necessities and food even though the UUM management had already provided a steady flow of assistance throughout the implementation of the MCO.

According to her, the one-off assistance would indeed be used well.

For Mr. Muhammad Faiz Aiman Farizon from the School of Applied Psychology, Social Work and Policy (SAPSP), as a student, he welcomed the government's initiative when a special package of free Internet services across all telecommunications networks until the end of the MCO was offered.

“The assistance provided will lighten our burden especially for students whether they are on campus or at their respective hometowns at this moment in time.

"In addition, students will soon be taking part in Online Teaching and Learning sessions, so this is a great opportunity to take advantage of," he said.

In the Prime Minister's Economic Stimulus Package (PRIHATIN) announced recently, a total of MYR250 billion was allocated to help ease the burden of the people in the country following the outbreak of COVID-19.

Of the amount, MYR270 million in funding was channelled to students at various levels of higher education including matriculation, community colleges, polytechnics, Private and Public Institutions of Higher Education.
