SUKIPT 2024: UUM LEAPS FROM 26TH TO THIRD PLACE
UUM ONLINE: Sweeping all eight gold medals in the golf events, UUM鈥檚 contingent made a dramatic leap from 26th place on the third day to third place in the medal standings at the 2024 Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT) 2024.
In addition to the gold medals, UUM also secured two silver and seven bronze medals, bringing the total to 17 medals, thus surpassing UUM鈥檚 target of 15 medals.
Yesterday, UUM won gold medals in the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 individual gross categories, the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 individual nett categories, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 team nett categories and the women鈥檚 gross pair categories.
This victory holds great significance as UUM celebrates its 40th anniversary, further proving to the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) that the selection of UUM as the Centre of Excellence for Golf is highly appropriate.
Earlier, UUM won its first bronze medal on the third day in Taekwondo, lawn bowls and p茅tanque.
Director of the UUM Sports Centre, Dr Nasiruddin Haron expressed his pride in the achievements displayed by all UUM athletes in elevating the university鈥檚 reputation.
According to him, the goal of securing 15 medals was surpassed, with UUM鈥檚 largest-ever contingent this time, consisting of 317 athletes.
鈥淚 hope our athletes will continue to secure more medals in the remaining events of SUKIPT until the final day,鈥 he said.
Polytechnics currently leads the standings with 19 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze medals, followed by Universiti Teknologi MARA in the second place with 16 gold, 9 silver and 12 bronze. Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) in fourth place with a total of 7 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze.
MOHE is also offering a cash prize of RM 20,000 to athletes who break national records, irrespective of the sport.
A total of 74 contingents from public and private universities, polytechnics and community colleges and Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) from across the country are participating in the 6th edition of SUKIPT, competing for 231 gold medals.
