TAN SRI AZUMI TRACES THE HISTORY OF SINTOK VALLEY

General (R) Tan Sri Dato' Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed paid a visit to UUM to trace the history of Sintok in the state of Kedah also affectionately known as the Rice Bowl of Malaysia.

His arrival was greeted by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Ayoib Che Ahmad at the Welcome Centre where they spent some time mingling, yesterday.

According to the Director of UUM Press, Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Ram Al Jaffri Saad, the General’s visit to the campus was in relation to the publication of a book depicting the Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman, His Royal Highness Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah’s experience as a soldier defending Sintok valley.

"Tan Sri once served together with Tuanku the Sultan of Kedah in the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) 3 as soldiers who struggled to defend Sintok valley from Communist assaults that once terrorized this area.

"Hence, Tuanku Sultan has asked us to rope in Tan Sri Dato' Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed as he too had a lot of experience about the history of Sintok for the publication of this book," he said.

During the visit, Tan Sri Dato' Panglima Mohd Azumi Mohamed was accompanied by the Director of UUM Press, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ram Al Jaffri Saad and Director of UUM Management Museum, Dr. Mohd. Kasri Saidon.

The guest was also taken to other historical sites namely the mining site, Sintok Police Station, Gurkha Ambush and Chinese graveyard.
