THE COVID-19 ASSISTANCE FUND PROVIDES PROMPT HELP TO STUDENTS
UUM ONLINE: To ensure that immediate assistance is provided directly to students, the Student Affairs Department (JHEP) has set up the Covid-19 Assistance Fund.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hendrik Lamsali said the setting up of the UUM Student Living Aid account was to ensure that the welfare benefits could be channelled immediately to students during the period of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
According to him the assistance received will be used during emergency cases such as for the Covid-19 disaster relief, natural disasters and the provision of free food to student in the B40 bracket.
"Most of these funds are donations from various parties, especially UUM alumni, staff and corporate bodies who want to help students especially those of the B40 group in this University," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Student Services and Support Division (SSSD), Dr. Rajwani Md Zain said SSSD was responsible for managing the process of allocating welfare resources through a simple process.
According to her, students who apply for the aid will be provided with direct assistance through the SSSD petty cash without having to go through time-consuming application process.
She said the procedure would facilitate and speed up the process of dissemination of aid to needy students.
"The distribution of resources does not only come in the form of cash but also in the form of basic needs such as food, drinks and daily necessities.
"In addition, UUM has also taken several initiatives to look after the welfare of students during the MCO that takes place until 14 April, including the offering of a programme namely the Well-being Profiling during COVID-19 , a mental health screening test for all interested students and staff as well as tax relief that will be considered as income tithes to contributors.
"In addition, UUM also provides free food to students who chose not to return to their hometowns following the MCO, University Health Centre mobile clinic at UPC Mall Bukit Kachi," she said.
