The University Is A Venue That Provides Mualim And Muadib
The University was reminded not to only to be a place to garner 鈥榤ualim鈥 but also 鈥榤uadib鈥, that is persons with good manners.
麻豆直播 (UUM) Chancellor, His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah said, the establishment of a university was an attempt to explore and intensify knowledge.
According to His Royal Highness, as a known fact with knowledge, graduates will have brighter opportunities to play their role in society in the future.
"More importantly, seek knowledge that can enhance wisdom because if persons possess knowledge and manners, they certainly will become a valuable asset to the society.
鈥淲hen manners is combined with wisdom, it will become the main core in the realization of integration of a society. Therefore, the two elements need to be sown and nourished in a country, especially for a multiracial country like Malaysia so that unity that has so far existed can be preserved for the country's future," said His Royal Highness in his speech at the first session of the 32nd. UUM Convocation Ceremony at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall.
His Royal Highness also reminded the graduands of the importance of integration in the development of a nation. Without integration and harmony, it would be impossible for a country to progress as it has today.
According to His Royal Highness, the concept of well-being would manifest in terms of the standard of living and quality of life that encompassed various aspects in which it would benefit the people.
"In My opinion, the concept of well-being begins with the individual self because individuals form society. Good for the individual in society, therefore good for the society and the country.
"I urge that the principle of fostering community welfare and preserving development in our beloved country can be thought of together. The principle is to create love, for each individual, to awaken the sense of sympathy and empathy, not just for humanity but for the whole universe,鈥 reiterated His Royal Highness.
In addition, His Royal Highness also called for the application of the concept of 'islah', which ensures that all the things that are done bring good change in society.
His Royal Highness also reminded all parties to prioritize or place importance on matters of utmost prominence and matters that bring benefit to the general public rather than on the interests of the individual and handle matters with prudence, and not in haste.
"Remember Flat object will not fly over; round object will not roll over." The existing strengths must be honed and renewed with a variety of skills which will continue to emerge in line with the demands of the Industrial Revolution 4.0," said His Royal Highness.
At the ceremony, Tuanku Canselor had the pleasure of conferring the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Corporate Management) to the Director of the KPJ Healthcare Berhad, Tan Sri Siti Sa'diah Sheikh Bakir and the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (International Business) to the Chairman of the Executive Officer of Tan Chong Motor Holdings Groups Berhad , Dato' Khor Swee Wah @ Koh Bee Leng.
In addition to the Honorary Degree, UUM also conferred the title of Emeritus Professor to the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Entrepreneurship & Sustainability), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Prof Dato鈥 Wira Dr. Mohd. Salleh Din and Dean of the School of Commerce and Social Science (SBSS), AlBukhary International University (AIU), Prof Dato' Dr Jamalludin Sulaiman.
A total of 89 graduands consisted of recipients of Doctor of Philosophy Degrees and Master Degrees as well as two recipients of the Royal Education Award and a recipient of the Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Gold Award received their respective degrees and awards during the first session of the convocation ceremony.
