UUM AIMS TO EMERGE AS THE VICTOR AT THE DEBATE COMPETITION CHAMPIONSHIP

UUM ONLINE: The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan urged the debate team representing Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (UUM) in the Royal Malaysian Intervarsity Debating Championship 2023 which will take place from 17 to 19 November 2023 to strive for the championship title in the competition.

The UUM debate team, which comprises 16 students, will be competing in four categories of Malay and English debates, all of which will be conducted online.

The ‘Utama Bahasa Melayu’ category is represented by Mr.  Aiman Othman, Mr. Abdul Hakim Abdul Hamid, Mr. Mohammad Noor Aiman Hassan Nudin, and Mr. Mohamad Ihsan bin Mohd Jawahir. Meanwhile, the ‘Muda Bahasa Melayu’ category is represented by Mr. Faris Daniel Zainorizal, Mr. Muhammad Tirmizi Rabidin, Mr. Muhamad Azim Siddiq Mohd Nasir, and Ms. Nadjween Hanie Mohd Mayan.

The English language category is represented by Ms. Trinity Bungan Tajang, Ms. Nur Shamirah Muhammad Al-Shafieq, Mr. Kishoretharan A/L Suppaiyah, and Ms. Yasmine Farhan Azran. The second English category features Ms. Nuurul Sakinah Skhindaar Musang, Ms. Alya Farhana Mohd Azmi, Mr. Nadesh Ragunath, and Ms. Norsyara Syafiqah Saif Ridzuan Muralee.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals of the Royal Intervarsity Debating Championship are scheduled to take place from 15 to 17 December at UiTM Shah Alam.

During the same meeting, the Vice-Chancellor also met with the champions of 2023 Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Higher Education Institutions Level Debate Competition which took place in October.

The university debate team, consisting of Mr. Abdul Hakim Abd. Hamid, Mr. Faris Daniel Zainorizal, Mr. Muhammad Tirmizi Rabidin, and Mr. Mohammad Noor Aiman Hassan Nudin, successfully won a cash prize of RM8,000, a round trophy, and a competition certificate in the inaugural event.

Prof. Dr Mohd Foad mentioned that winning as champions demonstrates the capability of UUM students in the field of management and cooperation. This achievement aligns with the university's strong emphasis on management.

At the same event, appreciation letters were presented to six security guards from the Security Department who assisted UUM students in a recent accident.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor also handed over a laptop and "Bakul Rahmah" (a basket of blessings) to Ms. Banan Ashour, a Master of Applied Linguistics student from Palestine.

Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed, and Supt. Hilmi Ahmad.
