UUM BECOMES FIRST PUBLIC UNIVERSITY TO SIGN MOU WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL鈥橲 CHAMBERS

4UUM ONLINE: 麻豆直播 (UUM) has achieved another milestone by becoming the first public university to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Attorney General鈥檚 Chambers.

The MoU was signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan on behalf of UUM and the Malaysian Attorney General, Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh represented the Attorney General鈥檚 Chambers.

Mr. Ahmad Terrirudin stated that this initiative will act as a catalyst for strategic collaboration between both institutions in exploring new opportunities to enhance the education agenda and promote the development of human capital.

鈥淚 am deeply appreciative of the invitation to deliver the keynote address in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary of the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) programme celebration. It is indeed an honour and privilege for me today,鈥 he said.

Earlier, Mr. Ahmad Terrirudin delivered a lecture entitled, Navigating the Ethical Labyrinth: Modern Challenges in Legal Landscapes, with the aim of enhancing the knowledge and skills of UUM students in legal profession.

He highlighted the ongoing ethical issues in the legal profession.

He said that law and ethics share crucial characteristics that dictate the manner in which situations should be handled and establish rules and principles intended to guide actions.

Ethic is defined as the moral principle that influences behaviour, the accepted systems, and the beliefs that govern conduct, while ethical describes adherence to the moral norms or standards of professional conduct.

鈥淓thics is part of the Islamic way of life, according to Aisyah RA鈥檚 account regarding the exemplary qualities of Prophet Muhammad鈥檚 (pbuh.). She stated that his conduct aligns with the teachings of the Quran. The Quran and Sunnah clearly requires all Muslims to have exemplary values and virtue, regardless of their profession,鈥 he added.

According to him, lawyers are regarded as officers of the court who are responsible for upholding the law and administering the judicial system. Therefore, lawyers must act not only to advocate for their clients鈥 personal interests, but also to assist the court in administering a fair and efficient justice system.

鈥淗istorically, the legal profession has been acknowledged as noble, however with the increasing number of professionals has resulted in a few individuals disregarding professional ethics, thus tarnishing the profession鈥檚 good image.

鈥淗ence, ethics play a crucial role in fostering and maintaining the high standard of the legal profession and regulating the behaviour of its growing members,鈥 he said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan expressed UUM鈥檚 pride in the opportunity to establish a strategic collaboration between UUM and the Attorney General鈥檚 Chambers.

鈥淭he MoU is essential as it serves as a guideline regarding the roles and responsibilities of the involved parties to ensure a clear understanding of this collaborative partnership. Congratulations.

鈥淭his is the goal we aim to achieve: to realize the primary objective of transforming Malaysian higher education by effectively addressing new challenges and leveraging the extensive knowledge, skills, and talents within UUM and the Attorney General鈥檚 Chambers,鈥 he stated during the General Lecture by Yang Berbahagia Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, Attorney General of Malaysia, at Seminar Hall A, Convention Centre. Following the lecture, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Attorney General's Chambers and UUM took place.
