UUM ONLINE: Since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) following the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, various organisations have taken the initiative to assist the frontline workers of the Ministry of Health (MOH) in particular.

The MCMC-UUM MakerSpace and Kedah Perlis 3DP COVID teams too mobilised their energy to contribute reusable face shields to the hospitals that were in need of face shields.

Fellow lecturer, Mr Ahmad Hanis Mohd Shabli said together with his five friends, they decided to help to print and modify the face shields in accordance with the requirements set by hospitals.

According to him, with the help of 15 units of 3D printing machines, they successfully produced many more face shields for the use of frontline personnel.

He said the project was jointly organised by 3D Printing Group Malaysia who coordinated the initiative and contributed the much needed materials for the said project.

“Together with officials from UUM CUIC, Mr  Suwannit Chareen Chit s / o Sop Chit and other teammates, we mobilised the process of printing and modifying the face shield since the implementation of the MCO.

"To date, over 1,000 face shields have been printed and delivered not only to hospitals, but to health clinics and police stations around Kedah and Perlis," he said.

Among the hospitals that received the face shields were Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi; Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, Kangar and Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar.

Mr. Ahmad Hanis, a fellow lecturer from the School of Computing (SOC) expressed hope that the contributions made would help equip the frontline personnel of MOH with the much needed face shields.

Also involved in the project were Mr Muhamad Zaim of MRSM Kubang Pasu; Science Assistant Officer of the Department of Chemistry Malaysia, Mr Muhamad Kamalrul Zaman Zainol ; fellow UNIMAP lecturers, Mr Mohd Hafiz Arshad and Mr Mohd Haidiezul Jamal Ab Hadi and fellow lecturer from Arau Vocational College, Mr Ahmad Fitri Mohd Yusri.
