UUM ONLINE: UUM continues to receive humanitarian assistance following the Government's Movement Control Order issued since 18 March.

The contributions received from various parties were to help meet the needs of students who were not allowed to return to their hometowns to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Director of the Student Services and Support Division (SSSD), Student Affairs Department, Dr. Rajwani Md Zain said the assistance received would be channelled to students affected by Covid-19 following the implementation of the Movement Control Order.

According to her, the assistance received will be channelled into UUM Food Bank programme and UUM Love Pantry as well as ongoing welfare assistance to students.

Among the contributions received were from the UEM Foundation (United Engineer Malaysia) amounting to MYR83,000 which came in the form of food items such as rice, eggs, sardines, cooking oil, essentials items including personal hygiene items  as well as hand sanitiser.

“We have also received other contributions from the Office of the Kedah Menteri Besar, the Foodbank Malaysia Foundation, the Alumni Association and the Penang State Exco.

"This effort reflects their concern for the crisis that is happening not only in Malaysia but around the world," she said.

She further added that more donations would follow as many had contacted her by expressing their willingness to lend a helping hand.

She said the University thanked everyone; the state government, private companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and generous individuals for providing assistance in the form of cash, essentials and food items.

"I hope this situation will end and we will work together to overcome this difficult situation by adhering to the directives given including the implementation of the Movement Control Order which is scheduled to end on 14 April and stop being selfish," she said.
