UUM ONLINE: As the Movement Control Order (MCO) entered its sixth day, campus denizens particularly fellow students were seen to continue to adhere to the directive issued by the government to stay put on campus, whilst their well-being continued to be taken care of.

An inspection was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani, where he visited the Central Pantry Food Bank at the Student Accommodation Centre (SAC) and the Bank Muamalat and TM Student Residential Hall (INASIS) cafeterias as well as the vicinity of the campus including the UUM Operation Room.

He said that throughout the duration of the MCO, university students were not allowed to return to their hometowns and as means to help ease their burden, various donations were channelled to these students.

According to him, the University management would like to express its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of Higher Education in particular for providing immeasurable assistance in the form of moral and monetary support to UUM.

He said the monetary assistance received was to ensure that the welfare of UUM students was taken care of and that they would be in good health and good spirits.

"All available food supplies including the received assistance are stored at the Central Food Bank at SAC and I am confident that the University will be able to meet the needs of students until 31 March.

"In addition, the university is also striving to obtain more essential supplies that are better including food in facing any possibilities that may follow as the current movement control order comes to a close that is the probability of the MCO being extended. The needs of the student must be looked after even though there is sufficient food stock available,“ he said while overseeing the distribution of lunches to students at the Bank Muamalat Student Residential Hall cafeteria yesterday.

The Vice-Chancellor also extended his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Kedah Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir and Bukit Kayu Hitam assemblyman Mdm. Halimaton Shaadiah Saad for their immeasurable contributions which came in the form of food as well as monetary support for the  benefit of the students.

At the same time, he also advised parents not to worry about the safety of their children as the University would ensure that all students who chose not to return home were well and were receiving adequate food and good health care.

The Vice-Chancellor also reminded all UUM denizens to stay at their respective homes and INASIS as advised by the government.

"Stay indoors, stay safe, stay healthy and make sure that your hygiene is maintained," he said.

Later, he visited the UUM Operation Room set up to help reduce movement and help the campus denizens obtain accurate and authentic information as well as ensure that all basic necessities were properly taken care of and kept in good condition in terms of hygiene.
