UUM HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS A VACCINATION CENTRE (PPV)
UUM ONLINE: Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) is set together with other 19 Public Universities and University Teaching Hospital (HPU) to be the Vaccine Centres (PPV) of the Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) to assist the National COVID-19 Immunization Programme (PICK) as announced by the Minister of Higher Education, Dato' Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad last week.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said that UUM would fully cooperate in making PICK a success by improving access to those who need to be vaccinated.
“UUM has assembled a team to assist in the success of this planned programme, and hopes that the people of the northern region will take advantage of the opportunity to receive the vaccine. The MOHE spearheaded the notion of setting up IHL PPV in a presentation at the COVID-19 Immunization Task Force (CITF) Special Conference on 31 May.
"We are committed to mobilising all health personnel including Medical Officers, Dental Officers, Pharmacists, Assistant Medical Officers, Nurses, Security Department, and others, to participate in this IPT PPV later," he said.
The goal of establishing the IHL PPV is to help the National COVID-19 Immunization Programme by increasing the number of persons who can be inoculated.
The special team from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) led by the Director General of Higher Education, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Husaini Omar identified that all IHL PPVs engaged were found to be capable of delivering 14,400 vaccines per day or 432,000 vaccines per month.
Among the Public Universities and University Teaching Hospital involved besides UUM are Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
The IHL PPV model is based on the Ministry of Health's (MOH) PPV model will involve Public Universities, University Teaching Hospitals, University Health Centre as well as the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as pillars for each IHL PPV.
