UUM ONLINE: Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) has become the first university to integrate body temperature technology, which simultaneously records the staff attendance using the Predictive Analytics Screening Solution (ONE PASS), namely the Health-Screening System (HSS).

Chairman of the UUM Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Shukor Mahfar said the use of ONE PASS was very much advanced that the system was able to detect not only body temperature but also one's identity and able to record staff attendance.

He expressed hope that UUM could be a leader to other universities in its quest to become a digital campus by applying technology in everyday life.

"It is brought to my attention that as many as 20 health screening equipment have been placed at strategic locations around campus that will monitor the temperature of students, staff and visitors. This is a very efficient usage of databases in today's digital age, which we cannot run away from.

"With UUM's efforts of moving towards becoming a digital campus, it will benefit everyone and will be one of the attractions for people outside of campus interested in pursuing their studies in UUM. Furthermore, even during the Movement Control Order (MCO), various courses have been conducted online. Indirectly, this kind of initiative adds value to the campus community," he said while conducting a body temperature screening at the Foyer of the Chancellery Building in conjunction with his Discover UUM cum Working Visit to UUM.

The HSS, which was developed by TM Berhad, is a health screening equipment which, despite not making any contact with the person’s skin, is able to detect body temperature and is analytical.

The advantage of the HSS is that it can accurately and swiftly scan body temperature without making any contact with a person’s skin. It takes just three seconds per person as it seamlessly amalgamates staff or student body temperature readings and attendance system readings, and the integrated dashboard then analyses and puts in the daily attendance reports in order.

More interestingly, the system will also be integrated with the office and college attendance system when the body temperature readings are taken.

The use of the technology system also caught the attention of member of the University Board of Directors, Dato' Bazlan Osman. According to him, a smart campus applying such technology to run the campus would indeed be a positive step that required the use of the latest technology.

"Thus, the cooperation between UUM and TM Berhad in the use of the latest technology will enhance the running of affairs and matters on campus," he said.

Meanwhile, Dato' Wan Shaharuddin Wan Mahmood who is also a member of the UUM Board of Directors said the use of HSS at UUM was a good collaboration with corporate bodies such as TM as it supported the University in its efforts to improve the screening process.

According to him, during the course of the pandemic, the University needed support such as this and remarked that the equipment was a very relevant tool for the University, adding that UUM was in the midst of moving towards becoming a digital campus.

"Digitalization is a way of life in the future, and we have no choice but to accept it in life, so the University must invest, develop the infrastructure and the workforce must embrace this digital technology," he said.

On the same note, fellow Board Member, Mr Khairul Azwan Harun also agreed that UUM could move towards becoming a digital campus as the Covid-19 pandemic challenge opened up new avenues for facilitating student learning.

“We are looking for new opportunities that come out of the IR 4.0 so as not to lag behind other leading universities.

"This effort must be sustained, and as a member of the Board I am very committed to this endeavour, God willing, I will continue to contribute ideas that will help elevate the status of UUM," he said.
