The Kedah Youth and Sports, Tourism, Arts and Culture and Entrepreneur Development committee chairman, Mr. Mohd Asmirul Anuar Aris said the Kedah State Government aspired to produce 20 to 30 percent athletes who possess degrees with the realisation of the third collaboration.
According to him, the collaboration could provide opportunities for athletes to study at tertiary level while at the same time enable the university to work with prominent sports bodies in Malaysia.
"For a start, we will focus on athletes from the state of Kedah even though the government has asked UUM to conduct detailed discussion concerning the content and technical aspects of the syllabus with MSN.
"We tried to do the same thing years ago but it failed and this time, I plan to see this effort through. The target set is at least 20 to 30 percent of athletes will study at university and graduate with a degree," he said at the Launching Ceremony of the Coaching and Sports Management Symposium 2019 and the MoU Signing Ceremony between UUM and MSN together with Kedah State Sports Council.
The MoU signing ceremony witnessed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim representing the UUM Vice-Chancellor; MSN was represented by its Director-General, Dato 'Ahmad Shapawi Ismail and Kedah State Sports Council was represented by its Director, Mohamad Rizal Mohamad Radzi.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Yusnidah said the cooperation among the three parties was in line with the offering of 1 State, 1 University, 1 Centre (1S1U1C) study programme by UUM under the MSN Sports Development Plan for Kedah state level through the Kedah State Sports Council.
"The proposed collaboration between UUM and MSN began in February when the MSN Director-General expressed his view of the opportunity for both institutions to cooperate in preserving the national sports development through the 1S1U1C Program.
"This programme is an initiative of MSN to establish a centre for athletes to continue their education at university level in a country," she said.
In the meantime, the first Coaching and Sports Management Symposium 2019 will be held as an annual or biennial event to discuss the direction and developments of sports especially in Kedah.
