UUM-PKT SYNERGY SET TO PRODUCE PROFESSIONAL TRUCK DRIVERS AMONGST GRADUATES
UUM ONLINE: A total of 100 selected graduates from 20 public universities throughout Malaysia will participate in the Young Professional Trucker UUM 2020 Programme to produce professional truck drivers.
Dean of the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), Prof. Dr. Nor Hasni Osman said the effort was part of the government's initiative to boost the economic sector post-COVID-19.
According to him, the programme that would be carried out through strategic cooperation with PKT Logistics Sdn. Bhd. would utilize funds from the KPT-Career Advancement Programme (KPT-CAP) Penjana programme that was launched by the Prime Minister at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia on 28 September.
“The 30-day training programme which will be held at UUM main campus will be led by the Head of the Logistics Department, Dr. Kamal Imran together with his team," he said.
Meanwhile, according to Dr Kamal through the programme, PKT as the training body would train 100 selected graduates from universities throughout Malaysia who are interested in becoming professional truck drivers.
According to him, the graduates would undergo 12 training modules that had been meticulously prepared as well as sit for the truck driving license test.
He said, after passing the license test, these ‘trucker’ graduates would begin working in logistics and transportation companies that had been identified and involved in the project.
"Apart from the Penjana fund, UUM through STML has managed to obtain another fund for the same project, namely the Graduate Employability (GE) fund which is designated for UUM graduates only.
"All in all, UUM through STML in collaboration with PKT Logistics as the provider of training will train a total of 117 graduates selected for this project," he said.
Both fund applications received guidance and support from the Director of UUM Career Unit, Dr. Herman Shah Anuar.
Apart from PKT Logistics, Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia, driving school and Vehicle Unit, UUM Development and Maintenance Department (JPP) were also involved in boosting the training programme.
