UUM PRESS PARTICIPATES IN THE FRANKFURT INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR DIGITALLY
UUM ONLINE: Despite the world confronting the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world鈥檚 largest book fair, the Frankfurt International Book Fair (FBF) or Frankfurter Buchmesse is still being organised. Frankfurter Buchmesse is considered to be the most important book fair in the world for international deals and trading of books.
This year, the highly anticipated book fair which is the focus of the world's giant publishing company took place digitally from 14 to 18 October 2020.
UUM Press participated as an exhibitor this year which incidentally marks its participation for the fourth time since joining it for the first time in 2017.
Director of UUM Press, Assoc. Prof Dr Ram Al Jaffri Saad said the organisers of FBF organised many activities related to the book fair on the webinar.
According to him, the participation of UUM Press this year was to establish an international network and strengthen existing relationships with strategic partners.
"Among the success garnered from previous participation is the strategic partnership with ScienceOpen based in Berlin, Germany. ScienceOpen provides an interactive search platform by Malaysian researchers through eight UUM journals and books published by UUM Press.
鈥淭hrough the ScienceOpen platform, books produced by UUM academics can be marketed widely internationally. In addition, UUM Press is also exploring the distribution space of digital books and e-books on the GoogleBooks and De Marque Inc platforms, Canada,鈥 he said.
He also reiterated that book marketing has also extended to Australia and New Zealand through the licensing of printing rights and distribution to Gateway Information Solutions, Australia.
According to him, UUM Press was also working to obtain translation publishing grants from the Norwegian and Italian governments.
