UUM RECEIVES RM10,000 RESEARCH GRANT FROM KDEBWM TO RAISE TVET AWARENESS
UUM ONLINE: Shah Alam - In a bid to raise awareness about Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (UUM) and KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) signed a Research Cooperation Agreement (RCA) on Friday.
The RCA was signed by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan, while KDEBWM was represented by its Managing Director, Dato' Ramli Mohd Tahir.
In his speech, Dato’ Mohd Ramli emphasised the importance of the collaboration in assessing the level of awareness of TVET among the staff of solid waste management and public cleaning companies in Selangor, with a particular focus on KDEBWM.
According to him, through this collaboration, KDEB Waste Management will allocate RM10,000 as a research grant to UUM and provide full support throughout this research project for one year. This support includes assistance with data collection, interviews, site visits, and other activities. related.
He said this agreement holds significance as it will focus on TVET and assess the level of understanding of TVET among the 700 staff involved.
"In my opinion, the element of TVET needs to be incorporated across all levels and is important to provide excellent service and reap great benefits to the company in various aspects, including enhanced financial efficiency, smoother daily operations, and long-term sustainability.
"The findings of this research are also anticipated to make valuable contributions to academic journals and literature studies, serving as a valuable resource for students, researchers, lecturers, and the general public. It will serve as the starting point for knowledge sharing," he said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dato' Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan emphasised the collaboration as a crucial historical milestone and a commendable initiative to support students who have discontinued their education.
He expressed confidence that TVET offers the potential to educate and create a collaborative environment for students in formal education to rejoin the field of skills.
"My gratitude goes to KDEB for trusting UUM, and we will ensure that this cooperation benefits both parties," he said.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Operations General Manager of KDEBWM, Mr. Mohd Idris Mohamed Yusof, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Russayani Ismail.
The research will be conducted by the School of Education, led by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr Shanusi Ahmad, alongside fellow researcher Prof. Ts. Dr Iwan Mahazir Ismail.
