UUM ROTU SUB LIEUTENANTS FETED AT REGIMENTAL BANQUET DINNER

Cadet officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces made up of university students must sensitize themselves with the environment, particularly with regard to the current and future threats and they must possess comprehensive military-related knowledge to face threats of any kind.

"Spiritual aspects also need to be reinforced with a combination of four elements namely intellect, spiritual, nafs and Qalb and the expression" loyal to the nation and willing to sacrifice for its sake without ever surrendering."

Such were the words of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani at the Regimental Dinner in commemoration of the achievement of students commissioned as the Sub-Lieutenants of the Malaysian Army by His Royal Highness the DYAM Tunku Mahkota of Johor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johor Darul Takzim recently.

As Vice-Chancellor cum Commandant of the UUM ROTU, he extended his heartiest congratulations to all of the 157 Sub-Lieutenants of the Malaysian Army from UUM, especially to the 81 Sub-Lieutenants of the Malaysian Army comprising students who had completed the gruelling training and ultimately being commissioned as Territorial Army Regiment officers.

"I fervently hope that this success will be a stimulus and motivation for students to continue to strive for the best in their respective education programmes and become exemplary for young people of all races to emulate not just in terms of knowledgeable but also skilled in the military," he said at the ceremony held at EDC Hotels & Resorts recently.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his elation on the success achieved by the students and was confident that the training they had undergone will mould the students to become bolder, stronger, more confident and capable of performing their responsibilities well.

He also extended his heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the President and all the Committee Members as well as all the officials involved in ensuring the success of the Regimental Banquet Dinner in conjunction with the 38th Royal Commissioning Ceremony of the UUM ROTU.

He also said that the knowledge gained by these sub-lieutenants was beyond the scope of academic learning within their study programme. Only those who join the ROTU can gain valuable military discipline that they can apply either at the university or after graduation.
