UUM Sponsors Scholarships To Palestinian Students In Malaysia
Putrajaya - Concerned with the fate of Palestinian students who wish to further their studies in Malaysia, Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (UUM) has offered scholarships amounting to MYR128,000 to two Palestinian students to enable them to pursue their study programmes at PhD and Bachelor degree levels.
The presentation of the scholarship sponsorship was officiated by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani and was witnessed by the Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad at the Breaking of Fast with the Palestinian Community Ceremony organised by the Palestinian Cultural Organisation of Malaysia (PCOM) yesterday.
Besides UUM, scholarship sponsorships worth RM11.4 million also involved AlBukhary International University, Management and Science University (MSU), MAHSA University, Perlis Islamic University College (KUIP), City University, Multimedia University (MMU), UCSI, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Sunway University and Kuala Lumpur University.
Tun Dr. Mahathir said the scholarships were offered to selected students through PCOM to enable them to pursue their studies at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels at the 12 Malaysian universities.
"I am pleased with the role played by PCOM, an organisation that is committed to supporting the liberation of Palestine including building a cultural understanding between Malaysia and Palestine.
"To the selected Palestinian students, I extend my heartiest congratulations and I wish you all the best," he said.
Also present were the Prime Minister's wife, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali; Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; former Chairman of Hamas, Mr. Khalid Mashal and Chairman of PCOM, Mr. Muslim Imran.
