VICE CHANCELLOR'S MESSAGE FOR 2021 SET TO DRIVE THE EXCELLENCE OF THE UNIVERSITY
UUM ONLINE: The year 2021 opens with a new chapter after all of us went through various challenges with various issues that hit the world, namely the COVID-19 pandemic which has brought about a significant impact to everyone in various aspects including the national education system.
As the new year dawns, the denizens of Â鶹ֱ²¥ (UUM) are reminded not to be the village champions who only dare to speak on campus. Instead, they should perform tasks as a great team and stay united to ensure the agenda of the University becomes a reality.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani the achievement attained and prosperity experienced by the University were the result of joint efforts, not the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor alone. The success is a shared success.
According to him, as a team, members need to appreciate the diversity and promote unity among campus denizens despite the different views, ideas and suggestions.
"We need to remain confident and ready to assist UUM in various aspects such as to ensure that the agenda of the University as well as the ranking and rating is successfully carried out. However, we must not put aside the community agenda. We need to ensure that the community too share the benefits. Assist the university to further improve the marketability of our graduates who are now gaining the attention of the industry.
"Besides that, I also hope all the centres of authority (PTJ) will assist the University in generating income. There is a need for us think and move as a corporate entity now," he said at the Vice-Chancellor's New Year Address and Presentation of Appointment Letters to Key Office Bearers of the Year 2021 at EDC Hotels & Resorts recently.
In his address, he also touched on the achievements of the Phase 2 Strategic Plan (2016-2020) which ended last year and now set to enter Phase 3 of the UUM Strategic Plan (2021-2025) with six cores that will focus on three agendas namely UUM Branding, Quality Alumni and Management Reference Centre based on 25 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
In his speech he expressed hope that all employees can work together to ensure that the 25 KPIs can be achieved in order to further drive the excellence of UUM.
In addition, he said by 2025, he anticipated that UUM would successfully soar in world university rankings namely QS World University Rankings (QSWUR), Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and UI GreenMetric.
"I would also like for OYAGSB to become a Top Business School after successfully acquiring the AACSB and AMBA accreditation, followed by EQUIS, next, develop UUM Kuala Lumpur Campus to become the Crown Jewel of UUM and realize Tuanku Chancellor's desire to establish a Centre for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) studies," he said.
At the same ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor presented letters of appointment to 67 newly appointed Key Office Bearers involving the Heads of Centres of Authority, Deans and Principal of Student Accommodation Halls (INASIS). The event was quickly followed by the pinning of the bars ceremony for the staff of the Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU) and the taking of oath was led by the Director of the Career Development Centre (CDC), Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Farizal Rajemi.
According to Prof. Dato' Dr. Ahmad Bashawir, the position awarded should be viewed as responsibility entrusted by the University and all stakeholders.
He further reiterated that, the position should not be viewed as an advantage but more of ‘²¹³¾²¹²Ô²¹³ó’ and responsibility that must be borne with utmost integrity for the future of UUM.
The Vice Chancellor also launched several handbooks namely the Phase 3 Strategic Plan book (2021-2025) by the UUM Institute of Quality Management (IPQ); MyPortfolio (Registrar's Department) and UUM Connected Campus (UUMIT).
